JERSEY CITY LAUNCHES NATIONWIDE

SEARCH FOR DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS

JERSEY CITY, NJ (February 2, 2026) — Mayor James Solomon today announced that the City of Jersey City is launching a nationwide search for a new Director of the Department of Public Works. Acting Director Greg Kierce will continue in his current role through April 15, 2026, after which he will focus full-time on his duties as Director of Emergency Management.

"From day one, this administration has been committed to delivering a city government that actually works for the residents of Jersey City—and that starts with getting the basics right," said Mayor James Solomon. "I am grateful to Director Kierce for his leadership during this transition and for his continued service protecting our city as Director of Emergency Management. Now, we are searching for a forward-thinking leader who understands both the nuts and bolts of keeping a city running and how to modernize outdated systems to better support the hardworking men and women who keep Jersey City clean and operational every single day."

The Department of Public Works is responsible for essential city services including sanitation, street maintenance, and infrastructure operations. The Solomon administration is seeking an innovative leader with deep expertise in municipal operations and a proven track record of modernizing public works systems.

The ideal candidate will bring experience in large-scale municipal or public works operations, demonstrated success in implementing operational improvements, and a commitment to supporting frontline workers. The city is particularly interested in candidates with experience in systems modernization and data-driven service delivery.

Interested applicants should submit their resume and cover letter on the Jersey City Jobs portal. The position will remain open until filled.
