The Jersey City Department of Health and Human Services is dedicated to providing health and social services to residents of all ages through an array of programs. For the first time in decades, all Health & Human Services divisions are housed at one location, creating greater ease for residents in need of support. COPING WITH A TRAUMATIC EVENT

In December 2019, Jersey City was home to a mass shooting that was motivated by hate and intended to induce terror. This event had a deep and immediate impact on the community in which it occurred, and resonated in the hearts of Jersey City residents and onlookers around  the world.

This act of terror, like all acts of terror, was unanticipated by the innocent bystanders who found themselves in and near the literal and figurative crossfire. Exposure to this kind of trauma affects us all to varying degrees. If you find that you and/or your loved ones are struggling to cope with this event, or any other traumatic experiences, we encourage you research some resources that are available locally. The documents below are a good starting point.

To request the services of a community chaplain, or to inquire about training in Mental Health First Aid for yourself or your community group (church congregation, neighborhood association, business establishment), please reach out to the Division of Injury Prevention at (201) 547 5114.
