Join us for our biannual seminar!

Doing Business with Jersey City is a biannual seminar that teaches small business owners how to secure a public contract with the City of Jersey City. Presented in collaboration with the Division of Purchasing and Jersey City Economic Development Corporation, this event covers everything from placing a bid to obtaining a small business loan. If you believe that your business can provide quality goods and services to the City at a fair price, we hope to see you there!

About us:

The City of Jersey City is a major consumer of goods and services having an annual procurement budget that exceeds $100M.  Under the direction of the Business Administrator, the Division of Purchasing follows 4 basic principles:

Obtain the goods and services necessary for City government to do its job

Obtain the highest quality goods and services at the best price

Obtain goods and services from minority-owned, woman-owned, and local businesses when possible

Adhere to the rules and regulations of the Local Public Contracts Law (N.J.S.A 40A:11 et seq) 

If you believe that your firm can offer quality goods or services at a fair price to the City of Jersey City, there a few simple steps to take:

Obtain a business registration certificate (BRC).  Unless the amount of the proposed purchase is less than $3150, all vendors doing business with public entities (State, County, Municipal, and Schools) must have a valid business registration certificate issued by the State Department of the Treasury.  For more information on getting a BRC, visit the Department of Treasury website.

Check the City's list of Public Contracts to see if there is a Request for Proposals (RFP) or Request for Qualifications (RFQ) currently advertised that might apply to your firm.  Note that Professional Services and Extraordinary Unspecifiable Services vendors are prohibited from making political contributions to Jersey City municipal candidates and to other political organizations. Please read Jersey City's Pay to Play Ordinance (08-128).
