The Year of Open Space (YoOS) is an initiative to optimize existing public spaces for a post-pandemic world and to create more innovative, non-traditional public spaces in the City to better meet the community’s needs. Such as pocket parks, pedestrian malls, plazas and other outdoor areas. As mentioned in the Mayor Fulop’s State of the City Address 2022, “Investing in parks and open spaces is my main priority because the return on these investments is invaluable”. Improving residents mental and physical health, property values, environmental impacts, while increasing community engagements and other intangible benefits. This yearlong effort will be supported by many city departments as we build on the recently adopted Open Space Element of Jersey City’s Master Plan.
As promised we will be doing multiple activations throughout the year in neighborhoods across the City. We want to hear from you on what underutilized open spaces should we focus on. Our goal is to shine light on all open spaces throughout the city with your help and knowledge.
Please fill out the following survey, as we will take into account all desired locations.
