The Department of Recreation offers open swim and learn to swim programs for residents of every age.  The department utilizes various public school pools throughout the year. In addition, Pershing Field Pool is open all year round.  Pavonia Pool and Lafayette Pool and Aquatics Center are outdoor pools which are open for the summer months.  There is a fee required for Pershing Field Pool.  All pool schedules and fee information can be found below. 

Pershing Field Pool Reopens After Renovation

Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy, the Department of Public Works and the Recreation Department cut the ribbon on the newly renovated Pershing Field Pool at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 30th, 2013, Summit Avenue and Pershing Field Plaza.

The hours for the pool are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.  Saturday and Sunday hours are 12 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Daily rates (Monday through Friday) for Jersey City residents are as follows:

• Adults (18 & over)  - $3.00
• Children - $2.00 
• Senior Citizens - $1.00.

The weekend rate is $4.00 for adults, $3.00 each for children and $1.00 for senior citizens.

Renovations, which included bringing the interior facilities up to ADA code requirements, refurbishment of the pool, and full renovations to the bathrooms, locker rooms and other areas of the facility, cost close to a half million dollars.

Free Swimming Lessons Winter 2013

Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy, members of the Municipal Council, and The Department of Recreation will be hosting free swimming lessons for boy and girls ages six to 14 years of age at five Public School locations across the city.

The lessons will be held from 4:15 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Fridays beginning today, Monday, January 7th.

Registration is first come, first served and registration is on-site. Classes are once a week and each class is limited to 20 students. Open swim is available after classes. Download flyer and registration form here or click on the grapic at right.

Swim Team - Piranhas
Open to boys and girls ages 5 - 17. The swim team practices at Ferris High School and Pavonia Pool.  Tryouts are held from 4:30 p.m. -7:30 p.m., Tuesdays & Thursdays, beginning Tuesday, April 23rd and running through May 2nd at the Ferris High School Pool, 35 Colgate Street.

Schedule
The Piranha Swim Team season will hold practices each week throughout the summer, Monday through Thursday, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at the Pavonia Pool on Pavonia and West Side Avenues. The first practice will be on Tuesday, May 28, 2013.

Applicants must be experienced swimmers. Bathing suits are required.
