The Department of Public Works is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in Jersey City, making every effort to maximize the efficient, effective use of the City's resources. DPW is committed to public safety and providing prompt, courteous quality service to our customers and each other.
As of April 1, 2016, the Department of Public Works has assumed the responsibilities of the Jersey City Incinerator Authority, which has been dissolved.

COLLECTION. RESIDENTS ARE TO PLACE THEIR TRASH AND OR RECYCLING CURBSIDE

2017 Curbside Christmas Tree Collection Schedule
Thursdays only: 1/5, 1/12, 1/19, 1/26
Christmas trees must be free of ornaments and/or lights and placed curbside Wednesday night between the hours of 7:00 p.m. And 10:00 p.m. Once curbside, any and all bags must be removed from tree.
Wreaths and/or artificial trees will not be collected with Christmas trees. Please place these items curbside with your regular garbage.

JC Shovels is a volunteer driven initiative that aims to help
low-income seniors and disabled homeowners with snow removal. This initiative looks to better the quality of life for all Jersey
City residents. In helping clear snow off walkways for senior and disabled
homeowners, we better the walkability for all residents and insure that senior
and disabled residents can safely enter and exit their homes during inclement

Seniors that are requesting shoveling assistance this winter through the JC Shovels program can request an application by calling 201-547-4391 or by downloading, printing, and returning this application.

All applications are reviewed to determine
eligibility. Seniors will receive
confirmation letters via mail or e-mail upon application approval.
The Department of Public Works will be providing recycling containers to one and two-family homeowners in an effort to increase recycling citywide.
Eligible recipients will receive one (1) round recycling bin for co-mingled recyclables and one (1) square bin for paper and cardboard recyclables.
Containers can be obtained staring May 9th, Monday through Friday between 2pm and 7pm while supplies last at:
