The Mayor's Quality of Life Task Force is an informal body of several different municipal agencies and divisions. The Task Force also has a public/private partnership with Public Service Electric & Gas (PSE&G) and United Water, as well as other local, state, and federal agencies.
The Mayor’s Quality of Life Task Force tackles a variety of problems that affect the health, life, and safety of Jersey City residents.
The Task Force has been involved in illegal dumping investigations, buildings with severe property maintenance issues that go beyond the jurisdiction of just one agency, and vacant buildings with chronic illegal occupancies. The Task Force has just begun a partnership with the New Jersey State Attorney General’s Office in cracking down on illegal barbershops which have become a stomping ground for a variety of other offenses.
Most of the agencies assigned to the Task Force have a code enforcement mission. However, a few of the agencies perform a support role. For example, Meals on Wheels and Adult Protective Services provide on-going help and support to seniors.
The representative from the Division of Community Development is a specialist in relocation problems, and this assistance is invaluable when a building needs to be vacated. Many times PSE&G is able to provide information about customers that the City agencies are not necessarily able to access.
