Established in 2002, and part of the Department of Health and Human Services, the Office of Veterans Affairs assists Jersey City veterans with a variety of services, including the following:

     • Applying for Veterans Administration claims
     • Health Issues
     • Small Business Loans
     • Small Business Loans
     • Education Benefits
     • Survivor Benefits
     • Civil Service Benefits
     • Home Ownership Benefits
     • Information on Pensions & Compensation
     • Death, Burial & Related Benefits
     • New Jersey Veterans Memorial Homes
     • Homeless Veterans Programs
     • Counseling
     • Assistance in obtaining military service records,awards, or medals to which a veteran
        is entitled.

The Office of Veterans Affairs does not determine eligibility for any veterans program. It does provide information on benefits available, however, as well as assistance with filling out forms.

Staffed full-time by two combat veterans of the Vietnam War, and located in Room B2 at City Hall, 280 Grove Street, the Office of Veterans Affairs is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.  While no appointment is necessary, it is suggested visitors call ahead before dropping in to ensure they get the help they need.

The State of New Jersey mandated War & Conflict Dates needed for eligibility benefits and entitlements are listed below.  Please be advised that military service during these time periods constitutes veteran status. Military service outside of the dates listed below recieves no veterans benefits.
