Construction Code and Zoning Divisions will be closed to the public Monday, June 25th through Thursday, June 28th. Both offices will reopen on Friday, June 29th.

The Office of the Construction Code Official is empowered by the 
Jersey City Municipal Code to:

  • Administer and enforce the State Uniform Construction Code and conduct the centralized issuance of permits and inspection services.

  • The condemnation of properties in accordance with N.J.S.A. 40:48-2.3 et seq.

  • Issue permits for alterations, additions, new buildings, and inspections both before and after occupancy is permitted.

  • Conduct ongoing inspections of elevators, swimming pools, backflow preventers.

  • Register non-state licensed contractors.



Great news for the Department of Construction - We now offer an online citizen portal. What does this mean? Construction Permits:

  • Can check the status of permits on properties
  • Follow inspection results as they are entered by clicking the watch button on property info window
  • Make Inspection appointments online.

All appointments for Inspections must be made through the SDL Portal.
Click on the SDL Portal Icon. Choose from 3 different dates and the first available date will be given to you.
Please keep in mind that your first choice may not be available. First time users will need to create a username and password.


Monday -  Friday   9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Tuesday - 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Wednesday - 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Thursday - 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Friday - 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
