Biography

A lifelong resident of Jersey City, Councilman Frank Gajewski is the proud son of a World War II veteran and was the first generation of his family to attend college.

During his time on the Jersey City Police force, Frank was a legendary undercover cop, infiltrating and bringing to justice some of the city’s worst drug dealers. He’s made over 1,000 career arrests and secured millions of dollars in federal funding to help keep Jersey City streets safe. As a result, he received national attention when he was inducted into the Policing Hall of Fame at George Mason University. His tenure as Chief of Police for the Jersey City Police Department (JCPD) was widely praised and serves as a testament to Frank’s commitment to public service. He retired in 2001, after 29 years of service on the JCPD.
A graduate of St. Peter’s Prep and New Jersey City University, Frank also holds a Masters of Public Administration from Seton Hall University, and has complete extensive post-graduate work in criminal justice at Rutgers University. A Certified Public Manager and a Certified Police Planner, his research and work in fighting street-level drug-dealing and violent crime has been published in numerous articles and journals.
Councilman Frank Gajewski’s commitment to Jersey City is unshakeable. Not only did he choose to raise his family here, but he has chosen to continue his fight to make the city both safe and affordable by serving on the Municipal Council.
