Biography
David Donnelly, is a life-long resident of Jersey City, born in the historic Margaret Hague Hospital. He is a graduate of Saint Aloysius Elementary School and Saint Peter’s Prep. David holds a B.A. in Urban Studies from Rutgers University and will soon receive a Master’s of Science degree in Management and Urban Policy from Milano, The New School for Management and Urban Policy in New York City. Additionally, he holds a Zoning Official’s Certificate from Rutgers University.
The son of Paul and Mary Donnelly, David follows in his parents’ tradition of public service. His father is retired, having worked as a Learning Disability Consultant for the Jersey City Board of Education, while his mother served as Councilwoman for Ward B from 1997 to 2005.
David most recently served as a Senior Administrative Analyst in the Office of Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy from May of 2006 to October 2009. His responsibilities included analyzing and interpreting policies related to urban planning, environmental issues and transportation and mass transit. He also coordinated the Mayor’s Quality of Life Task Force and spearheaded the City’s “Green Initiatives Task Force.” David also served as an aide to Mayor Healy from November 2004 until January 2006.
His impressive record of public service also includes working as a special assistant to Edison Mayor Jun Choi and serving on the staff of Acting Mayor L. Harvey Smith. David has also worked for Congressman Frank Pallone, Assemblyman John Wisniewski, and Assemblyman Joseph Doria. Additionally, he has served as Deputy Clerk in the New Jersey General Assembly and as a Division Chief of Intergovernmental Relations in the Office of the Hudson County Executive.
David is a former Board Member of the Jersey City Free Public Library, and has volunteered countless hours for the benefit of local organizations including the Jersey City Economic Development Corporation, the Parish of St. Aloysius, the Higher Achievement Youth Program, as well as working on various national, state and local campaigns, the most recent of which was that of President Barack Obama.
He and his new bride, Dawn, enjoy playing tennis in Lincoln Park and spending an occasional day at Monmouth Park Race Track with the Donnelly family.
